Is the
Orthodox Christian Church of the then Transvaal and Orange Free State
Although the Holy Archbishopric of Johannesburg and Pretoria began a service to the small Hellenic community of the Witwatersrand in the early 1920's and later its are of responsibility extended to cover the then Orange Free State and Transvaal , today this Archdiocese incorporates many different Ethnic groups of people and Serves Greeks , Russians , Serbs , Rumanians, South Africans and others.
Our Archbishoprics Mission
The Archbishopric of Johannesburg and Pretoria is also actively involved in Mission work and has a coloured community in El dorado Park worshiping in Afrikaans and served by Fr. Kobus van der Riet , It also has Communities in Tembisa , Mamelodi
worshiping in Northern Sotho and English served by Fr. Dn. Stephen Hayes and a community in Soshanguve worshiping in Northern Sotho and English served by Fr.
Johannes Rakomako there are even more communities being served .
His Eminence Archbishop Seraphim commissioned South Africa's first Orthodox Christian Seminary in Johannesburg which was put in place for the Church's Mission to provide the training of Her Priests, most will be serving in Northern Sotho and even has a student from the Zaire. Fr. Johannes Rakomako was one of these students at this seminary
In addition to the Mission work as mentioned above our Mission has members involved in soup kitchens and involvement with the street children of
Johannesburg and Pretoria
Our Archbishopric co-operates with the New Pan Hellenic Voice which is an AM radio station broadcasting from Johannesburg.
Printed Communications
Our Archbishopric also communicates to the community by publishing a monthly magazine also known as "The Alexandrian Lighthouse" and the donations collected from this fund its Mission
